My 1st attempt at Macross plamo due to this impluse buy:

The build was easily the longest of any plamo that I have yet built. It took more than twice as long to build as compared to the HMM Genobreaker as I spent a lot of time painting and decalling the VF-25S.

1/72 VF-25S

After a long build, with lots of painting, detailing and decalling, the VF-25S in fighter mode looks like this:

Note that the 3 little landing gears can actually take the weight of this hefty kit.

Here's a look at the under-carriage of the VF-25S with the landing gears extended:

And here's a close-up of the rear landing gear:

Close- up of the cock-pit. I must say I like the lines on this fighter!

More pics to come.

Thanks.

Was thinking about panel lining. But decided not to as it was a huge effort to get it to this state as it is.

Anyway, more pics of the fighter mode.

Close-up of the landing gear, which is taking the weight of the entire aircraft:

Top view, with the mirrors minimising shadows:

Front view of the VF-25S. The large missiles on the end of the wing tips are anti-ship missiles.

Another view of the VF-25S, this time with the radar on its back attached (the radar was missing in some of the earlier pics):

Close-up of the anti-ship missiles. These missiles actually have a ball joint, which allows the thrusters to have some degree of freedom in twisting.

Wow, I can see why you got one. I'd probably be tempted to get one too, if I had the money and space to spare.

All of those missile pods reminds me a lot of Liger Zero Panzer. I'd imagine with all of that equipment on, handling it would be...interesting.

Last of the pics of VF-25S in fighter form.

Close up of the cock-pit with rear cockpit armour closed:

With the rear cock-pit armour open. The regular version of VF-25S does not have this piece of armour.

Rear view showing all the thrusters:

View with the stand that comes with the kit. SMS on the stand is short form for Strategic Military Services, which is the military contractor that operates the VF-25S:

View of the under carriage with landing gears retracted:

"Retracting" the landing gears is more of a parts swap, but its great to know that it works out well.

A close up view of the cover for the rear landing gears:

Comparison of the 1/72 VF-25S with 1/72 HMM Genobreaker. The Genobreaker is longer due to its tail:

Comparison with 1/72 HMM Molga. The Molga is clearly shorter than the VF-25S:

The width of the VF-25S is just a bit wider than the length of the HMM Molga:

Next up, VF-25S in Gerwalk mode.

I should also mention that the ability of the anti-ship missile thrusters ability to move is something called vectored thrust. I believe that all the main engines on VF fighters have this ability. Most of the next generation fighters are going to have this ability, because vectored thrust allows an air or spacecraft to maneuver better by altering the direction the thrust nozzle is facing. It is likely that this ability will become more common over time among air and spacecraft in general, especially spacecraft, since maneuvering flaps don't work in space.

Yes. From VF-0 onwards, all the VFs have thrust vector control engines. For this particular Armoured VF-25S, there are also small vernier thrusters on the extra parts that help with maneuvrability.

Armoured VF-25S
Gerwalk Mode 1

The VF-25 series actually has 2 Gerwalk modes with the minor difference between them being whether the hands are out in front, or still stored as part of the aircraft body. The next few pics will show 1 of the Gerwalk modes with the hands still stored in the body.

Front view of Gerwalk mode with no hands:

Side view:

A bit of a top down view:

A look at the back. The long extension at the back of the body is where the hands are stored:

View from the back:

Plan view:

Note that while the transformation function works for this plamo kit, the transformation process itself is quite difficult. It takes quite a bit of parts swapping, which is ok. But the worst part is that during transformation, small parts will fall off the kit. And some of these small parts cannot be glued (e.g., the guns on the head).

Thus, the transformation process is quite trying and I have no intention to do any more transformation unless it is absolutely necessary.

Very impressive Spartan! Nice kit, I am tempted to buy one but my backlog of gunpla is around 15 deep now so I wont be buying anymore for a while. If you have time I bet some panel lines on the white parts or bigger lines, it would really make a few things pop.

Armoured VF-25S
Gerwalk Mode 2

This is the 2nd Gerwalk mode, which has the hands of the Valkyrie out in front.

Front view with Gun Pod in right hand and knife in left hand:

View from below:

Side view:

Close-up of the cockpit for comparison of the size of weapons with the pilot figure:

Top down view from the side:

Close-up of the most important piece (the one in dark grey) holding all this together:

There is a different dark grey piece to hold the kit together for each of the forms. And swapping this piece out is seriously quite a painful process.

Armoured VF-25S
Battroid Mode

Here are the pics for the final mode of the VF-25S, the battroid.

As this kit is rather heavy when completed, the stand comes in handy to support the weight of the kit.

View from the side:

View from the back. The extra stuff on the back weighs quite a bit, and it doesn't rest that close to the rest of the body. And due to this weight, its a bit tricky to get the battroid to stand on its own:

View with the stand propping up the kit:

Close-up of the cockpit on the back of the battroid. Note that the VF-25S design doesn't have an armour hatch for the cockpit in battroid mode as compared to the VF-1 series. This is partly due to the cockpit not being exposed on the front of the battroid:

Armoured VF-25S
Battroid mode (full burst)

Here's what the armoured VF-25S looks like when all the extra missile pods are open:

Close-up of the head and the missile pods on the chest and shoulders:

Close-up of the missile pods on the leg:

Side view:

My view of the kit:
Overall, this was a fun build. As this kit is transformable, it is quite a complex build as compared to a MG Gundam. This also has an effect on the poseability of the kit, especially after having so many extra parts due to the armour and weapons. This makes the transformation process very complex and frustrating. Still, it is quite an amazing kit with very nice lines. Having looked at some reviews of the basic VF-25 series, I think the basic one is a cleaner and more elegant kit as compared to this hefty armoured one. Personally, I think I should have left it in the fighter mode, as I prefer the sleek lines on the fighter. Anyway, this is certainly the most challenging build I have to date. And the result is quite satisfying.

The kit looks great.  I especially liked the comparison with the molga for scale.

Thank you.

The kit being in 1/72 scale is 1 of the reasons I bought it. Was curious to see how a VF stacks up against a zoid size-wise!
