First and foremost I apologize for the spam, I'm conducting an experiment and it just turned out your board was the unlucky one to be randomly found I will not post any harmful content just need to get out an email adress [byebye, address.] The keywords have been removed for this post, I shall now leave Again, apologies for the spam, it must be done

You are a self centered, self serving parasite. There is no need to apologize to someone before you vandalize their home. Just consider yourself a petty little criminal and take yourself out of here and all the other victim sites you use for your own gain. I know it is probably far too much to expect you to feel any amount of shame, guilt, or responsibility, so I would settle for you simply crawling back under your stone. And, incidentally, your keyword block DOES contain harmful content, and your spam must NOT be done.

S'probably a bot, possibly googlebombing or otherwise screwing around with keywords. I know if I were spamming I wouldn't have the patience to do it by hand, not that I would :p. I have to admit this is a bit different from the spambots I usually get (my writing blog has yet to get a non-spam comment). At least it's something new.

It seems Doc is on holidays, or this would have been deleted very fast... The question is, what is the purpose of such a spam. If we are a test, this is to spam what ? Lionel

A little of topic, but that makes me realise we are on a forum that is not using moderator, and that is running very well. The first time I'm seeing that. Lionel

Well, I'll give him this much, at least he had the insight to apologize, as opposed to running off like a total jerk, without even showing any sign of remorse, not that we can be sure that he meant any of it. Doesn't excuse him in the first place, though. He didn't even try to spell out a logical reason for this experiment in the first place (and it is extremely rude to conduct such an experiment without getting permission from the person or persons in charge of a forum). I mean, what was the point of it, to see how mad we would get? From what I can tell, it was a total waste of time, on both sides. This is a pretty good indication that someone needs a hobby.

I agree. I was kinda thinking "what the hell? I guess I dont care" until he said it was an experiment and our forum was "unlucky". If you view his profile it is completely pointless, and email address that doesnt exist? This was a complete waste of time and thought on his part and I hope he didnt get a headache thinking this spam "experiment" up. Either way I think I'm going to call this a U.S.P phenomenom. What he's doing is posting all over this forum so that the webcrawlers will pick up on his posted tags and addresses and raise the visibility of his porn site... or, just as likely, a porn site that pays him $X.xx for Y number of hits. As for ZP running without a mod, that's both impressive and should be rectified. Liem might want to make sure someone is around to cover for him. After all, this was a mild case of a person who got by the filters... there are far more malicious posters that can do that.

Yes, I am seriously considering getting moderators for ZP since life has been busy for me with other pursues.

Yeah, I sort of had something similar in the back of my mind. It is fortunate that he was only a spammer. It could have been a whole lot worse if the forum had been infected with some virus, or if it were somehow hacked. I've seen sites that have suffered from similar maladies, which made them near impossible to use.

A moderator can't do anything about most exploits like that, since they don't have direct access to the hosting the forums are on. What you need to do there is always, always update/patch the forum the minute there's any security releases out for it. I'd personally disable the ability for users to upload images or avatars (or at least keep new users away from it, since most driveby bots don't post much), it seems to be a common avenue of attack. SMF had the infamous krisbarteo thing, and I completely avoided harm by having avatar upload blocked >_>.

Has to be a mod with admin privileges with the power to kill accounts, block IPs, and all that jazz. To start with, though, you only need a mod or two to cover your time zones, and give them delete powers in case one of these shows up again. ;)

That wouldn't stop a lot of exploits, actually. Once they've registered and done the upload malicious code trick, it's there, and someone with access to the server itself has to pry it out of the board files. IP bans are also futile against trolls/troublemakers proper unless the account's owner is very clueless AND on a static IP address, which is a very unlikely combination...I remember getting banned from boards in the AOL days when admins were trying to stop people with the same ISP as me, too D:. (Though speaking of spam, there's some of what looks to be buy our legit electronics, rly spam in one of the selling/classified boards.)

While this discussion here is very informative for us... the mere fact that we have entertained and is even discussing this right under the spammer's thread is probably giving him/her delight by now! IMHO the best way is to ignore it and quickly move on with our daily lives here at the boards.... Im sure we are all aware that this might not mean anything... the one who posted this doesnt need purpose... no bigger agenda... he/she might have probably randomly selected groups to annoy! And voila... ZP was it! And it was all probably done coz the one who posted it needs undivided attention and love that his/her parents and family didnt give! Lol! -Grimm

The forum software is really outdated, though. I'm not sure what security holes it has, but old versions are ominous to me D:. ...looks like upgrading is 150 USD, too. The HELL? ASPPlayground.net can go $verb a $sharp_object, too, for that slam on free software on their main page D:<. Screw you guys, I've used open source with both no help (which happens with closed source programs too) and with documentation that makes most programs look pathetic (<3 Handbrake wiki, especially their command line explanation).

At the very least, someone should find all of this guy's posts and delete them. As long as they remain, the bots will support what he does.

@ JES
I dont think he "meant" to apologize. I deal with spammers all the time and i report them to the proper places (which they do nothing about). Typicaly when spammers mass-send something it is 100% pre-written. So the could have written "i'm sorry" before they even commited the 'crime.' However, if it was a test, the Higherups on here would have more-than-likely recived some sort of email, crudentials, ect. So judging by the nature of the email; it could be one of many things (or combind reasons): 1. Mass spam 2. Direct hacking attempt (most hackers will act like spammers to cover-up, and also to test a sites response ability, and in-turn test the security) 3. Mass (indirect) hacking attempt 4. Direct spamming attack 5. "Phising" / Spam (Phising= with the intention of obtaining information, through means of mass-produced writing, attacks, or tricking)
WOW! So much i wrote! Sorry guys, i get carried away sometimes!
