Zoids Evo Drive 2 (ZED-2): Gojulas Mariner The Review
Estimated Cost to be 3500Yen
Released Date Jan 2008

One of it's kind, the wind-up 'miniature' Gojulas Mariner.

Front Box Art

Back Box Art

All Zeds are packed like this and if you notice the dual cannon comes pre-assembled.

Zed2 consists of:
1 Pre Assembled Gojulas Mariner
4 Cap Sprues
1 Weapon Sprues
1 Arm Cannon
1 Set of Foot base
1 Belly Armor
1 Belly Cover
1 Wind Up Key
1 Manual
1 Fan Booklet Gojulas
1 Xbox Alternative leaflet

6 Pages Manual

Skip the usual intro stuff on the front Fan Booklet, can't resist the back page.

Minor Weathering effects and painted weaponaries,

First is the assembly of the cannons to the chest armor. Similar contraption on all ZEDs with the ON/OFF switch.

The bare chested Gojulas

Chest armor is easy to put on guided by joints.

It may look like a disecting operation but it's just a wind-up key. Turn OFF while u wind it and ON after you finish.

The foot base design seperately.

I notice small rubber pads built onto the sole. I guess it's for better traction while walking

Shoes on an easy fit.

The fleet of weapons

I need to mention that the tail piece is built up of different parts, this will allow a more flexible motion as the tail swips left and right unlike the standard 1/72 Gojulas which has a fix tail.

The fins have pretty good detailing on them

Easy fitting guided by joints on the fin. Isn't lose like what i thought initially.

It takes  39 caps to plug the holes.

The pilot as compared to the standard gold pilot size.

The pilot needs to be plug into the seat hence preventing it from moving within  the cockpit. I think it's a good idea, its so small that u can easily lose them.

The extra pieces.

Like all Wind-Up motor on ZEDs it does not come with the Spining mechanism to move the spinning capability gear on Gojulas Mariner's back hence makes it a redundant. The idea here is that the backs are interchangable with the battery operated Gojulas which is capable of spinning the gear which will make the CP10 move up and down.
While moving the cannons it simultaneosly move the gojulas mouth. Battery operated will also move the head but on windup its stationary and can't be move.

Complete Product
Conclusion:
Like the Mariner Color, the total built up is proportionate and everything fits well. Simple Weathering techniques does brings out the life like on the Gojulas. Another thing to point out is the short travel distance of 15cm for wind-ups

Movable parts on Wind-Up Gojulas Mariner:-
Hands and Legs (by wind-up)
Tail (by wind-up)
Head (stationary)
CP10 Twin Cannon (Stationary but you can flip it up and down with your finger)

This guy actually looks kinda cool, if a bit clunky.  The only thing scaring me off is the price -- I just can't justify 3500 for a windup to myself, even if it's cute and stubby and won't eat my shelf space.

Now, if they end up on clearance like Diablo Tiger and Cyclops did...

Great review again!!! Look at that fan book, the history of gojulas, If TT ever release a ZED liger, I wonder how many pages would be needed !

It only travels 15 cm???  For a new product line, this is a very short distance.  Some of the older smaller windups probably walk farther than this.

Yup, a short stroll. But great display pieces the EVOs are.

Excellent Review, and I always like how the pictures are clear and easy to see. I was wondering, could you place the ZED-2 armor parts onto the ZED-1 to make a fully motorized Mariner?

I've not experimented on that yet, according to the pics and manual on both ZEDs all body parts are able to removed exposing the engine. I strongly belief swapping is possible. Part of their marketing process.

That definately would look very cool, and I don't really understand why they made the regular Gojulas motorized and not the Mariner, it would make more sense right?
