The Hasbro Ultrasaurus is a rare beast. I had the opportunity to pick one up on eBay recently to discover for myself if there are any differenced form the NJR version. I have heard that the hip section on the Hasbro Ultra is much wider than the NJR release. The box of an Ultrasaurus is always stunning, regardless of the release. The Hasbro box features the fully built unit on the cover, and several pictures as well as statistics on the reverse. An interesting error on the box is that the Ultrasaurus is listed as a tyrannosaur type. See below: I always enjoy the build process of any Ultrasaurus, the Hasbro version being no different. It tends to absorb you with wonder and excitement of anticipating the end result. Below are a couple pictures of the building process. For a full review of building an Ultrasaurus please click here. So is the Hasrbo Ultrasaurus worth adding to your own collection? The answer is yes, there is a large enough difference for me to consider it to be it's own unique piece. I was most surprised at how large the difference actually is. First, let's take a look at the finished piece on it's own. Below are both NJR and Hasbro version pictured side by side. In the picture below the large difference is very prevalent in the Hasbro version which is on the right side of the screen. The NJR version clocks in at approx. 6" wide from hip to hip, while the Hasbro version comes in at a massive approx. 7.75". The large difference makes the Hasbro an interesting variation on the Ultrasaurus, and a worthy addition to any collection. If you have the chance, I do recommend picking one up. Finally, a pic with the Hasbro wider hips comparison. Good job on the review.

What an intriguing difference! I wonder what made Hasbro's Ultra's mould having such a large hip. Oh, nice line up of Ultras too!

Hasbro did have some good re-release of Zoids that were limited in JP, but the thing that I hate the most is the lousy boxart.

I still don't have this one. I have 5 Ultra, but not this one. I should fill this gap one day. Thanks for the review. Lionel

I think it got the wider hips so that the moving guns get a better clearance, or just to get a wider base and less of a chance to tip over. For those who are planning on buying one, I have seen this go at ebay several times for some really decent prices. I do have a couple to trade if I get a chance to take it out of storage.

I must get this, it is a varient i don't have. It's so rare because it was released at the end of the hasbro line, and it sold only at Toy 'r' us.

If you look closely at the actual "hip" pieces, you can see the huge difference. The theories in this thread all make sense, but I dont know why so drastic a mold change for stability, with Hasbro though, you never know Thanks All!

Big toy + high shelf + tip = fall on head/otherwise injure, I would think. My Battlesaurus is plenty stable without the wide hips, but I suspect it was a case of "do this or it'll just end up getting recalled". Pity, as I think the wide hips look horrible D:. Still an interesting variant, with how it appeared with little fanfare and went mostly unnoticed.

Thanks WIKD for that great and informative review. Didn't realise that there is a difference in size! Now need to get one to add to my family of Ultrasaurus.

Wow, I didn't think that I had a Zoid that you didn't have. I always thought of you as one of those who had just about everything. I was one of those who were lucky enough to pick one up while they were on clearance. Good thing I did, since they are now rare. And no, it is not for sale. Ultra stays where zie is, and that is on one of my toy shelves.
