Sea Pather One Blox
- Released at Wonder Festival 2006 by February Hill
- A few sets were auctioned off Yahoo Japan Auction between 8000yen - 10,000yen

Box Design and Pieces of Kits (cut off from 2 Sprues)

Instruction Scan

Side View (Height 3cm, Length 5cm, Width 3cm)

Front View - Horrid Resin/ Plastic quality - with bubble-pit holes within the resin/ plastic.

Back View

Conclusion
Good when viewed from far (very far). A prototype is more acceptable for a release of this quality, but unfortunately this is the actual kit. A hefty price to pay for something so small and with such poor finishing.

Get the real Sea Panther Wind-up

Doc, thanks for the review write-up...

Indeed, the kit looks rather rough. If I notice correctly, the cockpit doesn't seems to fit nicely too...

Yes, one is supposed to file the edges and glue them......For now, I am keeping them in the "raw" state.

Well that thing definitely needs some TLC to look good. It looks pitiful in that state, with all the bubble pits. They probably did not get something right during molding.

If this was made from PVC then its understandable. Some of the gashapons also have this bubble pit problem, but its not apparent unless you look closer.

Damn, I've seen bootlegs with better quality. How can something so poor go for so much?

a lot of hype and high expectations  for a wonderfest item that really is horrible quality.. what was Febuary Hill thinking?

sigh.. if they showed a pic of the actual product not just the box then i doubt the anyone would bid so high. quite frankly i think they deliberately just showed the box to sell it. does this count as cheating?  nah

its either that, or this is one of the later castings (past the 200 marks?) doc was there any numbering or anything indicating how many castings its been since the first one?

I wonder if theres any remedy to this kit. I mean some fine filing, triming of edges, some paint, would it helps to restore to it original intended state...?

You'll need more than just that. Putty to cover up the holes and pits, and then a repaint to make it look nice.

That truly looks bad.

Think its probably a slip-shod job to get it out in time for the event.

As for the high prices in auctions, its probably due to collectors who wanted it since it is an exclusive. It probably doesn't help that zoids fan-sites at that time did not have pics of this thing. Otherwise, its auction price may take quite a hit....

This thing is the real kit or a prototype ? It was listed as a prototype, no ? I hope the real kit won't look like that, on the other hand, we will have to do a lot of work, and to repaint it to make it look acceptable.
I makes me think of a recast of it, with a mold made arround a real one. I hope you're not too disapointed.

I don't think this is a prototype. As I mentioned in another thread, the box came with a sticker "stamp of approval" from the WF Committee for its sale at WF. I think this is the real thing since there were 3-4 boxes on YJA recently.

i'm stunned.
even for a prototype, it's unacceptable that something like that's put up for sale as a zoid .. really crap.

I think we've all been rather negative in our view of this fella. True, it is pretty much a slipshod product from February Hill, but what about the other few kits that were sold on Yahoo Japan?

We haven't seen the rest yet and we have no idea if the condition of the others were identical to the one that Doc has shown here. If pics of the other kits appear on any of the Japanese online Zoids sites, then we can truly be sure that the molding defect is evident on all of these OB Sea Panthers. Otherwise I guess Doc just got a defective kit.

Apart from that, Doc has mentioned that this kit requires some filing and gluing. If that is mentioned in the instructions then the builder/collector has to do so to make it look good. The other previous OneBlox releases have always been painted, with the exception of the limited game exclusive Victory Liger OB. Using some paint, these pits and other faults can probably be "masked" somehow.

But one thing I do agree with is that price paid to win one does not justify the quality of the released item.

HAHA - it is not that bad actually. Will do some repair next year after the custom contest to revive it.

I guess I still agree with Doc's previous comment. For that amount paid, its sufficient enough for me to get a real kit...

May I borrow your thread Doc ?

Here is my Sea Panther One Blox, in progress.
First, the sprues :

There was some work to remove all the ergos, but the resin is a soft one, easy to cut. After, I made a little building, but without glueing anything for now :

I'm reposting here the one from Doc :

Look at the grey side parts, they are not the same at all. And the quality of the resin is a little better on mine (I haven't done all the work I could on it). I could stop here and let him like that, but I will probably try to fill the holes in the resin (I have some, many less than the one from Doc, but some holes anyway) and paint it (I love the idea of the green canopy). I will probably use my red and silver usual colour scheme.
That's why I'm thinking that Doc has a prototype.

To be continued...

Lionel

Next step, I fill the holes in the resin, as you can see on those parts :

Now, how will I paint it ? The grey will be my silver used for my custom, but the red ? I can use bright red or wine red.

Bright red

Wine red

Which one will be the better ? The original colour is more like the bright one, but the prototype was the wine one, and on the box, it is darker than the bright. So I don't know. And imagine the canopy will be green (or I choose to do the OJR one, and then it will be red...).

So I don't know, your opinion ?

Lionel

Hmm... For me, I would prefer wine red. It gives the OER/OJR look to the seapanther...
